On July 3, 2023, at 18:25 (Astana time), a partial shutdown of Atyrau refinery
occurred due to a power outage from external networks.
As a result, the technological installations of the enterprise powered by
external networks stopped. The Crude distillation unit (CDU) continued to
operate, as it is provided with electricity from internal generation at the
thermal power plant of the enterprise.
Despite the incident, Atyrau refinery continued to ship petroleum products from
existing reserves. At the time of the incident, there were 26 thousand tons of
gasoline, 34 thousand tons of diesel fuel, 1,500 tons of liquefied petroleum
gas, 6 thousand tons of jet fuel in the tanks of the plant. These volumes are
enough for seven days of stable shipment.
As the power supply stabilizes, the gradual withdrawal of technological
installations to a stable mode has begun. By the end of this week, Atyrau
refinery is scheduled to reach the planned production volumes of petroleum
products.
Due to the accident at the 1st power unit of the Mangystau nuclear power plant
(MNPP), an emergency shutdown of generating plants at the KUS LLP SGTPP
occurred, which led to a complete power outage at KPI Inc.
Due to the shutdown of the power unit at the MNPP, oil production at the fields
of JSC Ozenmunaigas, JSC Mangistaumunaigas, JSC Karazhanbasmunai, JSC
Embamunaigas in Mangistau and Atyrau regions has been partially or completely
suspended.
Work on the wells resumes as electricity is supplied.
