In December volume of transactions in foreign exchange at KASE reached an equivalent of USD242.3 mln, in year 2000 it totalled $1,743.4 mln

/IRBIS, Jan.03, 01/ - In December of the year 2000 in foreign exchange trade sector of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) trades were held in U.S. dollars (TOD, TOM, SPOT terms), Deutsche marks (TOD), euros (TOD, TOM), and Russian roubles (TOD). Three sessions were held daily: the morning (main - TOD), day (additional - TOD) and evening (TOM, SPOT). Total of 2,233 deals were made within a month, including: in U.S. dollars at the main and additional sessions on TOD terms - 2,115, on TOM terms - 113; in Deutsche mark - 2, in Russian rouble - 3. Total volume of the operations (hereafter corresponding figures for previous month are given in parentheses) reached an equivalent of KZT35,124.7 mln (19,883.9), or $242,299.6 th.(138,104.3). The U.S. dollar accounted for 99.9% (99.9%) of the Exchange's total turnover. Volume of transactions in U.S. dollars reached $242,035.0 th. (137,950.0) for KZT35,086.4 mln (19,861.7), including: - at the main and additional sessions on TOD terms - $222,585.0 th. (135,395.0) for an amount of KZT32,265.1 mln (19,494.0) with average of the trade sessions $10,599.3 th. (6,154.6); - at the evening sessions on TOM term - $19,450.0 th. (2,555.0) for an amount of KZT2,821.3 mln (367.7). In December of the year 1999 total volume of operations in U.S. dollars at KASE equalled $74,090.0 th. for an amount of KZT10,238.2 mln. Tenge devaluation rate, calculated at weighted average rate of the main session of the Exchange, is estimated in December (Nov.31,00 = 144.15 - Dec.29,00 = 145.40) by a trend of 10.93% APR. Last month average devaluation rate of tenge was equal 13.32% APR. Weighted average rate of the U.S. dollar against the tenge, calculated by the deals of the main session in December - KZT144.99 per unit. For November - KZT144.01 per dollar. From the beginning of the year through December 29 corresponding figure equalled KZT142.52 per dollar and grew up from KZT142.11 during the month. Based on the data of the National Bank, volume of interbank over-the- counter deals in U.S. dollars between the operators-residents of Kazakhstan in December, 2000 reached $344.823 th. Volume of all interbank over-the-counter market purchases - $371,570.0 th., sales - $388,719.0 th. For Russian rouble volume of deals in Russian rouble reached RUR7.1 mln (4.3) for a total of KZT36.8 mln (22.2). Tenge fluctuation rate estimated using weighted average rate of KZT/RUR on KASE equalled in December to minus 0.9% APR. (Nov 30 = 5.1760 - Dec 29 = 5.1725) In Deutsche marks volume of deals in December equalled to DM25.0 th. (-) for a total of KZT1.6 mln (-). No deals in EURO were made on KASE during the month.
