Kazatomprom's head criticizes MAEC's development strategy

/Kazakhstan today, December 1, 04/ - President of NAC Kazatomprom Mukhtar Jakishev during the company's conference in Aktau marked disadvantages of MAEC's strategy till 2015, says a correspondent of KZ- today. As Jakishev says, creators of the company's program of strategic development did not choose the optimal technological scheme, "which is not guided by economics". "In other words everything we spend money for must lead to decrease of cost and specific consumptions. The emphasis was not made on it", - he says. Jakishev has noted that first of all analysis of MAEC's current condition, its revenues and expenditures should be made. "We should understand how to increase revenues, how to work with undistributed losses and so on. We must examine reasons of undistributed losses and try to minimize them", - said Jakishev. Kazatomprom's head thinks technological development of the combine must be optimal. He explained that in case of unprofitableness of the old equipment it should not be repaired, but they should use the strong side of all branches, redistribute the load and get a cheaper energy resource. "This program of technical re-equipment and development will have precisely this conception as its base", - he explained. Jakishev has reminded that by the resolution of the government Kazatomrom's dividends will be spent for MAEC's technical re-equipment. "So, Kazatomprom's dividends as well as the so called borrowed funds will be the source of deficits covering. According to our conception, our every investment will have a certain payback term, so there are no problems concerning funds borrowing", - he said. NAC's president charged the combine's governing body with entire remaking the development program within a month in accordance with the new principles. As the whole Jakishev is satisfied with the company's work carried out within one year and a half. He says the personnel has done much work. All technical tasks concerning equipment restoring and reliability of energy supply have been fulfilled. Further replacement of equipment will be made on the basis of thoroughly worked out strategy of technical rearmament. [2004-12-01]
