Ceremony of putting of the first stone into the fundament of the plant for liquid radioactive wastes processing has been held - NAC Kazatomprom

/IRBIS, Assel Omarova, March 4, 04/ - NAC Kazatomprom (Almaty), whose bonds are traded in the official "A" listing category of Kazakhstan stock exchange Inc (KASE), today spread press-release, which said, that on March 4 ceremony of putting of the first stone into the fundament of the future plant for liquid-metallic heating reactor set BN-350 was held in Aktau (Mangistau oblast) within the framework of the US state department in the area of nuclear weapon non- distribution (NDF, USA). According to the presented information this project's cost is estimated at $3 m. The plant is meant for processing of liquid-metallic heat carrier (liquid natrium) in the volume of 1,300 tons in alkali. It's planned to finish construction of the plant for liquid natrium processing by the end of 2004. Setting in exploitation is planned for April-May of 2005. Manager of the project James Canon, manger of programs of Argon National laboratory Peter Wels, general director of MAEC-Kazatomprom LLP Baurzhan Ibraev and director of the atomic reactor BN-350 Gennnadiy Pugachev took part in the ceremony. In the future it's planned to build the second plant meant for following making alkali the form of geocement stone for long-term safe storage. The project will entirely be financed by the state department of the USA in the area of nuclear weapon non-distribution. Atomic reactor BN-350 is the first in the world reactor working by quick neurons with 20-year term of service. At present it's also the first one, which is taken out of exploitation among such reactors. BN-350 is comprised by the structure of MAEC-Kazatomprom LLP, which.
