Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved conception of uranium industry and nuclear power development till 2030

/Kazakhstan today, August 27, 02/ - Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan approved conception of uranium industry and nuclear power development for 2002-2030. About this KZ-today was informed by the committee of nuclear power of the Ministry of energy and mineral resources (MEMR) of Kazakhstan on August 26. Aims of the conception are optimization of natural fuel recourses usage, diversification of energy and heat production for stable development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, increasing of power safety of Kazakhstan, preservation and development of nuclear power and uranium industry, as science intensive and advanced technology branches, deputizing of import electrical power and energy carriers. The conception gives development of independent position of Kazakhstan, especially NAC Kazatomprom, at the world uranium market, diversification of export of energy carriers, increasing of the level of ecological safety of electrical power and heat production, and also possibility of Atomic power station building on the territory of Kazakhstan. While developing of the conception specialists of MEMR based on the fact that Kazakhstan is one of the biggest suppliers of uranium in the world and till 2028 the country will be able to reach uranium production up to15 th. tons a year. There is developed atomic industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan with high- capacity scientific base, which is necessary to preserve. Government of Kazakhstan believes that nuclear energy is also perspective for providing local economy with power under the conditions of Kazakhstan. In the opinion of ecology, atomic energy is more acceptable for development of Kazakhstan power engineering. [2002-08-27]
