As of February 1, 2002 total state debt of Kazakhstan, issued as GS, equaled KZT330.6bn or $2,184.9m along with servicing
/IRBIS, Feb 4, 02/ - At midnight on January 31, 2002 total state debt of Kazakhstan, issued as government securities (GS), including municipal bonds, along with the servicing equaled KZT330.6bn, or $2,184.9m at KZT151.30 per dollar rate. The specialists of IRBIS came to this conclusion after making the analysis on the database of the agency.
From January 1 through 31, 2002 total debt increased by KZT5,095.5m (1.55%), or $17,683.5 th. (0.82%, taking into account weekly change in the rate of the National Bank). Correspondign figures of December 2001 were +KZT5,046.6m (+1.57%) or +$9,899.9 th.
The increase in January 2002 was attributable mainly to:
- 35% to increase in debt of National Bank on short-term notes (due to a positive net borrowing balance of the bank on primary market);
- 31% to increase in face value of the debt of the Ministry of Finance on domestic GS (due to a positive net borrowing balance of the minisry on primary market);
- 29% to increase in face value and servicing of external debt of the Ministry of Finance due to a exchange rate difference.
