Import substitution volume in 2002 will not be less than $500m - the minister of economy and trade of Kazakhstan

/Kazakhstan today, Jan 9, 02/ - In year 2002 planned volume of import
substitution will not be less than $500m. The minister of economy and trade
of RK Zhaksybek Kulekeev making speech on January 09 at work meeting
on import substitution with national companies working at Kazakhstan market
- Kazakhstan temir zholy RSE, NCOT KazTransOil , NOC Kazakhoil, NAC
Kazatomprom and KEGOC OJSC - informed it.
Share of these companies in a total volume of import accounts fro 3.5%.
Aggregate potential volumes of agreements and intentions of import
substitution based on companies' data for year 2002 preliminary were
determined in the amount of $120m.
As the minister informed, in year 2001 on preliminary data from regions there
were import substitutions agreements fro the amount of $408m. At that actual
production delivered for the amount more than $366m that accounts for
89.8% of total amount of made agreements.
According to Kulekeev words, experience of work with NOC Kazakhoil
showed that range of production of domestic machinists for oil and gas
industry is competitive.
Also it was underlined that in 2001 Kazakhstan temir zholy RSE made
agreements for the supply of equipment, reserve parts and components from
domestic producers for the amount of more than 10bn tenge, which is almost
two times exceeds level of year 2000. As Kulekeev informed, according to
operative data of the Ministry of economy and trade the growth of industrial
production in 2001 in the republic totaled 13.5%.
