/IRBIS, July 4, 01/ - REUTERS informs, with the reference to the chairman
of the National Bank, Grigorii Marchenko, that as of July 3, under the capital
amnesty campaign KZT21.512bn, or $147m has been already received by
commercial banks.
It is said that the government of Kazakhstan made a decision to conduct a
capital amnesty campaign from June 14 through July 4 to attract these funds
into the economy, and last week the government extended this campaign till
July 14.
Chairman of the National Bank informs that this campaign is meant to
strengthen the trust of small and mid-sized business to the state, and make
them to switch from gray sector into a legal sector of the economy.
Most of the money was received by seven major banks, including
Kazkommertsbank, Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan, Eurasian bank, Valut-Tranzit
bank, TuranAlem Bank, Almaty Merchant Bank and Bank CenterCredit, is
said.
The statistics showed that 13-14% of the money was cash tenges, about
55% - cash dollars, and about 30% - money transfers from abroad.
The National Bank also informs that from Monday through Thursday of last
week the volume of money sharply increased, followed by a some decline on
Friday as a result of an extension of the campaign.
It would have been about $250m, unless the campaign have been extended,
he added.
It is said that National Bank analysts expect the peak of the money inflow on
the last two-three days of the campaign, and the extension of the campaign
is said to increase the volume of total money, which was estimated by the
Ministry of Finance at $500m and by the National Bank at $300m.
The bank chairman noted that the number of participating people is also
important, showing the appropriateness of the campaign, and he expressed
that more people will join those 1,000 people, who have already legalized
their money.
