/MODIFIED/ Excise on Kazakhstani vodka reduced 2.5 times

/IRBIS, June 7, 01, modified due to an error in previous news/ - KAMAL consortium informs that today the resolution #753 of the Government of Kazakhstan, dated June 2, 2001 "On amendments and into resolution of the Government of Kazakhstan #137 dated June 2, 2000" was published in official mass media.

It is said that from June 2, 2001 the Government of Kazakhstan reduced the excise on vodka and special vodka produced in Kazakhstan 2.5 times - from KZT100 to KZT40 per liter. The excise on vodka imported to Kazakhstan is set unchanged - at 1.7 euro for 1 liter.

The Law of Kazakhstan "On taxes and other mandatory budgetary payments" states that the payers of excise tax on vodka and liquor items are the legal entities and private persons, who produce the items in Kazakhstan on which excise tax is applied. The excise tax rate is approved by the Government of Kazakhstan.

Prior to the reduction, total excise tax rate on domestic vodka in retail trade reached 43%, is said.

Official rate of EUR/KZT set by the National Bank of Kazakhstan for accounting, customs and tax purposes for June 4, 2001 is at KZT124.36 for euro, is said.
