Decrease in stock market capitalization for PIS of Kazakhstan in January was due to drop in share prices

/IRBIS, Jan.31, 00/ - As of January 31 stock market capitalization for
corporate securities of Kazakhstan (A+B+N excluding SBS) equaled 2,217.0
mln U.S. dollars or KZT309,007.2 mln at tenge to dollar rate of the
Currency exchange effective on that day. In early January corresponding
figures equaled 2,264.4 mln U.S. dollars or KZT313,054.2 mln.
Within a month capitalization decreased $47.4 mln, which was mainly due
to a decrease in market value of:
- common shares of OJSC "SHNOS" - 26.8%;
- common shares of OJSC "Bank TuranAlem" - 19.92%;
- preferred shares of JSC "Aktobemunaigas" - 78.90%.
Entering new instruments into trade lists of the Exchange - common
inscribed shares of OJSC "Voskhod", shares of OJSC "Jyluenergia";
common inscribed shares of OJSC "Astana-finance"; common inscribed
shares of OJSC "GEOTEKS" - partially compensated for the decrease in
capitalization.
Late January (in parentheses are December figures) total of 90 (88) PIS of
68 (66) emitters were in trade lists of KASE.
