/IRBIS, Jan.31, 00/ - In January 2000 at Kazakhstan stock exchange (KASE) 28 deals were made totaling $21,410.1 th. in private issue securities (PIS). Compared to last month number of deals decreased 12.5% (from 32), but total turnover of operations in monetary terms grew 2.2 times (from $9,703.1 th.). Volume of operations in terms of securities amounted to 13,464,660 shares against 5,203,381 shares last month. Volume of trades in PIS in January is the highest at KASE from the beginning of the trades in private issue securities at the Exchange on September 19, 1997. In January the most liquid, as well as in December, were common inscribed shares of OJSC "SHNOS" (Shymkent, KASE official list of securities, category "A", trade code SYRG). They accounted for 71.9% ($15.4 mln) of all organized market of the country for PIS. In December deals were made in 13 instruments, whereas in December only 11. 11 trades out of 18 held were successful. Comparable figure did not change within a month: in December - 13 out of 20 conducted. Despite these figures, stock market for PIS of Kazakhstan remains sluggish. It is enough to say out of 38 deals 18 (32 and 18 in December, respectively) were made by the brokers in Quotation system of KASE, which excludes automatic satisfaction of the applications in counter auction mode (so called direct deals that were made by the operators on their mutual agreement not by the results of the trades on the market). Other 10 (2 in December) deals were made in main mode of Trade system of KASE by a counter auction method.
