/IRBIS, Jan.28, 00/ - According to REUTERS, at closing of interbank
currency market of Kazakhstan on January 28 tenge quotations towards US
dollar equaled 139.39/43 tenge per dollar.
Compared to the results of the previous day tenge lost 3 points against US
dollar on demand and 4 points on supply.
In main (morning) session weighted average rate of the dollar with TOD
terms equaled 139.38 (-0.01) tenge per dollar and closing quotations -
139.37/38.
At closing of additional day session with TOD terms (3:00PM Almaty time)
dollar was quoted at 139.38/43 tenge per dollar. In the evening trades with
TOM and SPT terms dollar was not quoted.
Some growth in the demand price of the dollar in interbank market in the first
hour after the session closed at KASE did not find any further support in
dealers' quotations. Dollar quotations varied within 2 points both on demand
and supply, and remained almost stable. It is interesting to note that
quotations in REUTERS trade system did not change after 4:00PM of Almaty
time. Most of the day variations of the spreads did not exceed 5 points.
The balance is maintained in the currency market of the country. Proportion
of demand and supply of dollars are about the same, which can be
confirmed by traders' behaviors at the Exchange's trades, and also by the
interbank market. Liquidity of the banks is also high. "Overnight" rates were
unchanged today at 1/6 APR.
The situation in currency trades would hardly change on the first trades of
the next week. Fluctuations of the price of the dollar should not exceed those
level that are observed lately. However, considering a slight inclination of
the tenge towards weakening at the end of the day and significant repayment
volume of SS on Friday, it can be assumed that tenge will rather lose some
points than it may gain.
