/IRBIS, Jan.17, 00/ - According to REUTERS, at closing of the interbank currency market of Kazakhstan on January 14 tenge quotations towards US dollar equaled 139.60/64 tenge per dollar. Compared to the results of the previous day tenge decreased by 16 point against US dollar on demand and by 10 points on supply. In main (morning) session weighted average rate of the dollar with TOD terms equaled 139.60 (+0.24) tenge per dollar and closing quotations of 139.61/80. The dollar quotations at closing of the additional day session under the TOD accounts (3:00 p.m. Almaty time) have made 139.60/65 tenge for dollar. Dollar on evening trades by accounts TOM and SPT was not quoted. There were no any expressed tendency in the interbank market today. Some demand and supply prices growth during the day (at that the quotations have not reached the exchange closing parameters) can be hardly considered as an actual dollar strengthening. An interval of the spreads changes was rather narrow reaching 6 points on maximum and 4 on minimum. Judge by the day results, demand falls down gradually. It is possible that the today's dollar strengthening on KASE was stipulated by the growth of the official dollar rate by 45 points. However events of the second half of the day have testified that the market is not ready for the further dollar growth. The National Bank of Kazakhstan has informed today that for the first two weeks of 2000 the money base has decreased by 14.1 billion tenges. In other words, a half of 30 billion tenges, which were added to the money base in December has been neutralized. The Almaty exchanges employees complain that the cash dollars demand has decreased completely today. The market begins to be saturated with the dollar and comes in a balance. In opinion of the IRBIS experts, the afternoon's dollar quotation confirm has it today. On Tuesday on KASE the dollar and tenge have approximately equal chances to become stronger. At that the rates changes, most likely, will be minimum.
