Increase in capitalization of stock market for PIS of Kazakhstan in December is due to growth in share prices

/IRBIS, Jan.7, 00/ - As of January 1, 2000 stock market capitalization for
corporate securities of Kazakhstan (A+B+N excluding GOB) equaled
USD2,264.4 mln, or KZT313,054.2 mln at KZT to USD rate of the Exchange
effective on that date. At the beginning of December 1999 corresponding
figure equaled USD2,199.7 mln, or KZT303,337.7 mln.
Capitalization increased in dollar terms by $64.7 mln within a month, which
was mainly due to a growth in market value of:
- common shares of OJSC "Corporation Kazakhmys" - by 1.1% (in
December the price of this instrument reached its maximum - $21.0 per
share, but went down to $9.41 by the end of the period);
- common shares of OJSC "SHNOS" - by 25.7%;
- preferred shares of OJSC "Mangistaumunaigas" - by 40.0%;
- preferred shares of "KAZAKHTELECOM" - by 10.0%;
- common shares of OJSC "Bank TuranAlem" (previously par value was
used because of absence of transactions).
Total of 88 (87) PIS of 66 (66) emitters were in trade lists of KASE at the
end of December (in parentheses are figures for the end of November).
