/IRBIS, Dec.24, 99/ - According to REUTERS, at closing of interbank
currency market of Kazakhstan on December 24 tenge quotations towards
US dollar equaled 137.94/138.00 tenge per dollar.
Compared to the results of the previous day tenge gained 14 points against
US dollar on demand and 13 points on supply.
In main (morning) session weighted average rate of the dollar with TOD
terms equaled 138.07 (-0.03) tenge per dollar and closing quotations -
138.07/09.
At closing of additional day session with TOD terms and the evening trades
with TOM and SPT terms dollar was not quoted.
Today dollar quotations in interbank market showed that tenge was firming.
Especially, it was apparent during the first hours after closing the trades at
the Exchange, when quotations of an American currency went down by 14
points. It is interesting to note that they remained below the Exchange's
trade levels.
Spreads reached 10 points at times, with the minimum of 3 points.
At closing of the market USD quotations looked downward, supporting
further firming of the tenge in currency market of the country. Supply of
dollar is sporadic on Exchange trades and keeps influencing the activity of
trade participants, actually determining the demand, which remains low from
the banks of the second tier.
Considering the current situation, IRBIS analysts assume that firming of the
tenge will continue on the first trades of the next week.
