Tenge started to lose points in the OTC market of Kazakhstan
28.10.99 00:00
/IRBIS, Oct.28, 99/ - As it was informed earlier, at closing of the KASE
session the tenge per US dollar quotation were fixed at the level of 140.35/38
at the average weighted rate of 140.15.
Following are the quotations of Kazakhstan interbank currency market
provided by dealers to the REUTERS information system (the interval is
about an hour):
140.35/38 - Exchange closing,
140.22/32
140.10/40
140.24/29
140.35/45
140.40/50 - at 16:00 p.m. Almaty time.
The dollar quotations in the interbank market testify to the price growth after
1:00 p.m. Almaty time. The process was accompanied by decrease of the
shortest money quotations to 2/7% p.a.
Interrogation of the dealers show that there are enough free money in the
market, however it does not caused the dollar demand rise. Most likely, the
bank's permitted currency net position are completely filled. The dealers try
to use the difference between Exchange and OTS-market rates, at the
exchange sessions work using short gamble, and do not trust in the long-
term trend in the dollar market. Some try "to shake" the market, but such
attempts did not result in anything.
Thus, the IRBIS analysts do not consider the dollar increase as well
expressed or long-term tendency.
