USD/KZT at the day closing - 140.80/90 (indicators)
18.10.99 00:00
/IRBIS, Oct.18, 99/ - According to REUTERS, at the moment of October 18
Kazakhstan's OTC-market closing tenge/dollar quotations has made
140.80/90 tenge per dollar at the average weighted exchange rate of 140.58
(-0.25) and session closing quotations of 140.57/58.
By the dealers interbank quotations, tenge as against of the previous day
closing decreased by 40 points on demand and by 30 points on supply.
After exchange trades closing tenge some time continued to strengthen by
the dealers quotations, and then stabilized at a level of 140.55/65 per dollar.
But after a banks' operational day closing (4:00 p.m.) dollar quotations grown
both on demand, and on supply. Spreads did not grow, and even decreased
in relation to Friday's. Their average value was fixed today at a level of 12
points.
The overnight interbank tenge deposits rates also began to decrease and at
6 p.m. were 2% p.a. (demand) / 6% p.a.(supply). From KASE's repo
transactions, the actual short money rates did not correspond to this level:
18% p.a. for 4 days, 14% p.a. for 2 days, 12.5% p.a. for 1 day.
The technical market indicators testify that the banks have not completely
restored the short-term liquidity, and tenge deficiency continues to be felt in
the market . By the end of a day the dollar bull speculation looks unjustified.
On the other hand, the exporters' dollar supply day-to-day weakens on
KASE. The market is gradually move toward a turn of the tendency of dollar
rate changes.
In the IRBIS analysts opinion, the exchange trades in US dollar on KASE will
open tomorrow highly, but it does not guarantee the resulting dollar growth.
The insignificant USD/KZT up or down changes are most probable. But the
dollar rate decrease looks more real in the current conditions.
