Opposition inveighs against the sale of a part of Kazakhstan's share in Tengizshevroil

/REUTERS, Almaty office, Sep.02, 99/ - Oppositional party "Azamat"
(Citizen) acts against the government's plans to sell a 10% Kazakhstan's
share in joint venture "Tengizshevroil", the party leader Galym Abilsiitov
said."The heavy economic situation pushes government to sale 10 percent of
Tengizshevroil", - has told Abilsiitov on a press-conference.
In 1992-1994 years Abilsiitov was the minister of science and new
technologies of the Kazakhstan government. Since January, 1993 he was
the deputy prime minister, supervised the questions of state scientific and
technical policy.
In the press release the party leaders name the sale "a logic step in the
antinational acts of the Balgimbaev (the present prime minister) government
in searches of new financial sources".
On the press-conference Azamat leaders declared, that for preservation of
national interests in the country's oil and gas industry following were
necessary: resignation of Balgimbaev cabinet, realisation of complex inquiry
of the branch business condition, publication of results privatisation of oil
deposits, refining enterprises, oil storages and filling stations.
Kazakhstan possesses 25% of Tengizshevroil, which develops the Tengiz
deposit on the Caspian sea north-east coast. Other participants of joint
venture are Chevron - 45%, Mobil - 25%, joint venture LUKARCO created by
Lukoil and Агсо - 5%.
In the Kazakhstan government the present declaration of the leaders of
oppositional party was connected with forthcoming in September and
October bicameral parliament and local elections. Azamat is going to bring in
its representatives in the Mazhilis - one of two chambers of parliament.
"It is a pre-election stroke", - has told REUTERS one of the employees of the
