EU postponed import tax on silicomanganese from China and Kazakhstan for a year

/INTERFAX, Brussels, August 27, 08/ - Eurounion again postponed import
taxes on silicomanganese from China and Kazakhstan for a year, Bloomberg
informed.
EU postponed till September 6, 2009 introduction of 8.2 % tax fro China and
6.5 % - fro Kazakhstan due to the thing tat prices on this raw remain high.
These taxes were confirmed by EU in December last year, however, their
being effect was poisoned by 9 months.
As informed earlier, since year beginning EU introduced import taxes on
ferrosilicon from China, Russia, Egypt, Kazakhstan and Macedonia for 5 year
term with the purpose to protect European producers, among which
Ferroatlantica SL, from high competition on the side of cheap import. The
amount of tax on ferrosilicon makes 33.9 % for Kazakhstan, 31.2 % for
China, 22.7 % for RF, 18 % for Egypt and 5.4 % for Macedonia.
Kazakhstan primary holding Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation
(ENRC) declared due to this decision.
Chelyabinsk electrometallurgy plant (CEMP), the major ferroalloys producer
in RF, also gave claim in EU court due to ferrosilicon taxes.
