Presentation of the Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) in Kazakhstan

On January 29, 2020, the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) hosted an event as part of the introduction of the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) in Kazakhstan. The event was attended by employees of financial and non-financial companies, representatives of news agencies and the media.

The purpose of the event is to announce the introduction of the PMI index in Kazakhstan, to explain its application methods and the advantages for analyzing Kazakhstan's economy. The PMI is an indicator that shows the state of the economy in manufacturing and service sectors.

The use of PMI indices is used very widely in the world among private and public institutions for economic monitoring, analysis, forecasting and planning.

Representatives of the Exchange, Tengri Partners Investment Banking (Kazakhstan) and IHS Markit Ltd spoke at the event. Currently, IHS Markit is a leading data collection and PMI indices calculation company. The company calculates the index for the economies of more than 40 countries. In most cases, IHS Markit compiles PMI indices in cooperation with regional sponsors. The PMI in Kazakhstan is being introduced by IHS Markit for the first time in history in 2020 at the initiative and sponsorship of Tengri Partners.
