Building of the first line with the capacity of 125 th. tonnes a year of Pavlodar electrolysis plant to be completed in September of 2008

/INTERFAX-KAZAKHSTAN, Pavlodar, February 22, 05/ - It's planned to complete
building of the first line of electrolysis plant in Pavlodarе (administrative
center of Pavlodar oblast, in the north of Kazakhstan), the capacity of which
will be 125 th. tonnes of aluminium a year, in September of 2008.
At that, within the frameworks of the first line the first starting complex
with the capacity of 60 th. tonnes of primary aluminium a year is to be set in
exploitation in December of 2007.
Such the data is presented in information materials spread during the
conference in the residence of oblast's akim (head of administration) held on
the past Monday.
Building and setting in exploitation the second line of the plant with the
capacity of 125 th. tonnes of aluminium and 136 th. tonnes of burnt anodes
is planned for the period from year 2010 till 2012.
So, the planned capacity of the plant is 250 th. tonnes of aluminium a year.
During the conference in akim's residence Georgiy Ganauer the president of
Pavlodarский electrolysis plant JSC said at the moment preparation works
were being carried out on the future electrolysis plant's area and the
corresponding infrastructure was being built and assembled.
"At present the plant's infrastructure is being created in accordance with the
received corresponding permission, all necessary documents including
permission of ecological assessment are being prepared. Today we're
colleting information about Kazakhstan's building companies, which can take
part in this project's realization", - he said.
He has reminded that total cost of the project is estimated at $850 m.,
including the first line - $485 m.
Ganauer says in order to manage in the planned terms of finishing building
(by December of 2007) of the first line with te capacity of 60 th. tonnes of
aluminium a year, it's necessary to start these works in April-May of 2005.
As was informed, Swiss Corica AG, which in April of 2003 bought state block
of shares of Aluminium of Kazakhstan equaling to 31.76% of the authorized
capital, assumed obligation to set in operation the first line of electrolysis
plant with the capacity of 60 th. tonnes of products a year by the end of
December of 2007. At that, according to terms of the tender, state block of
shares of Aluminium of Kazakhstan is carried over to the ownership of
winner of the tender if the first line of electrolysis plant is set in
operation.
Aluminium of Kazakhstan JSC is one of ten leading alumina producers in the
world. The enterprise consists of Pavlodar plant (head enterprise),
Torgayskiy and Krasnooktyabrskiy bauxite mines, limestone mine Keregetas
and TPS-1.
Aluminium of Kazakhstan is a member of Eurasian industrial association
(EIA), which also comprises Sokolovsko-Sarbayskoye production unit JSC
(Kostanay oblast, in the north of the country), Euroasian energy corporation
JSC (Pavlodar oblast), coal mine Shubarkol Komir JSC (Karaganda oblast,
center) and transnational corporation Kazchrome.
