The construction of the Khromtau wind power plant is part of a national strategy to increase the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix. It is expected to create 300 jobs during the construction phase and 25 permanent jobs once the plant is commissioned. The total cost of the project is USD 178 mln. Funds are allocated by Kazakhstan Electrolysis Plant JSC (a member of ERG group) and Development Bank of Kazakhstan JSC. As part of the project implementation, the Bank will finance construction and installation works, equipment purchase, start-up and commissioning works (EPC-contract, technical supervision, expertise, etc.) on market terms in foreign currency. The first stream of green electricity will be released to the grid at the end of December 2024 from two wind turbines. The station is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of 2025. DBK supports strategically important initiatives, including green projects aimed at reducing carbon footprint, which is in line with Kazakhstan's commitments under the Paris Agreement and the long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality in 2060.
