/IRBIS, December 1, 03/ - In the first 11 months of 2003 total volume of
foreign exchange transactions concluded at the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange
(KASE) reached the equivalent of $5,330.7 m and increased by $2,780.4 m,
or 2.1 times relative to corresponding period of the previous year.
During the year 2002 foreign currency transactions volume at KASE was
estimated by the equivalent of $2,980.7 m.

Weighted average market rate of tenge to U.S. dollar, calculated based on
the deals of the main session of the KASE for the period from January 1, 03
till November 30, 03, according to IRBIS estimates equaled to KZT149.49
per dollar.
Devaluation rate of tenge to dollar in 2003 is estimated as of November 30 at
negative 6.48% APR based on the rate of the Exchange. For the first 11
months, tenge strengthened against dollar by 5.92% in nominal expression.
In 2002 tenge devaluation level in nominal expression was positive 3.26%.
