National Bank of Kazakhstan has characterized the Republic's banking sector

/IRBIS, June 18, 03/ - National Bank of Kazakhstan, in its scheduled monthly press-release # 014 dated June 18 of 2003, which is dedicated to the current situation at the financial market, has briefly characterized the republic's banking sector. The press-release says that as situation in the banking sector, as well as in previous months, remains stable. As of June 1 of 2003, 35 second tier banks (including Development Bank of Kazakhstan and Eximbank) functioned in the country. At that 12 were recognized as fulfilled the program of switching to international standards, 4 banks was placed in the first group, 14 - in the second. In April total shareholders equity of banks rose by 3.3% to KZT174.5 bn., total assets - by 5.2% to KZT1.26 trillion, total liabilities - by 5.6% to KZT1.1 trillion. As of May 1 of 2003 Stake of standard credits in the structure of banks' credit portfolio equaled to 68.9%, doubtful - 29.4%, bad - 1.7%. Composite coefficient of the banking sector's current liquidity as of May 1 was 0.95 (whereas the norm was not less than 0.3), short-term liquidity coefficient (minimal size is 0.4) was 1.04.
