Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan OJSC has financed publication of the first book about the history of savings business in Kazakhstan

/IRBIS, April 23, 03/ - Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan OJSC has spread press- release, which says that on April 23 in the building of Almaty oblast branch of the bank there was held presentation of the first book about the history of savings business in Kazakhstan. Publication of the book was financed by Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan OJSC. Authors of the book is financier Myrzadan Joldasbekov, who headed saving- banks system of Kazakh SSR since 1976 till 1987 and publisher Sergey Stepanov. Doctor of economic sciences, professor and academician Sagyndyk Satubaldin acted as the reviewer of the book. At present Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan OJSC is among three largest second tier banks of Kazakhstan by the size of assets and shareholders' equity. The bank issues cards of payment systems VISA International and MasterCard International, and remains permanent leader at Kazakhstan market of plastic cards. Total number of the bank's cards in circulation approximates to 1.5 m. units, and the bank's stake according to number of issued cards among second tier banks is more than 80%. The network of payment cards servicing: 366 cash dispensers, 1,446 POS-terminals and 852 imprinters. The bank has 625 structural subdivisions in Kazakhstan and three foreign representatives in London, Pekin and Moscow. In 2002 Halyk bank took the first place by growth rates of physical persons' term deposits. In December of 2002 International festival-competition "Choice of the year" recognized Halyk bank as "The best bank of 2002 in Kazakhstan". Major results of the bank's activity as of April 1 of 2003 in compliance with Kazakhstan accounting standards: assets equal to KZT219.107 bn. ($1.444 bn.), authorized capital - KZT9.882 bn., shareholders' equity - KZT22.295 bn. Net profit equaled to KZT1.142 bn., and increased in comparison with similar period of last year by 48.3%. Credit portfolio-gross of the bank is equal to KZT142.460 bn. In the total deposit base, which is equal to KZT73.993 bn. or $487.534 m, demand deposits and current accounts of physical persons equaled to KZT13.096 bn, rests on card-accounts - KZT5.677 bn. and population's term deposits equaled to KZT55.220 bn.
