Net income of Kazakhstan railway in 2002 increased more than by one third

/REUTERS, Astana, Raushan Nurshayeva, March 3, 03/ - Net income of Kazakhstan state railway company Kazakhstan temir zholy, according to results of 2002, increased by 35.8% in comparison with 2001 up to KZT15.8 bn ($102.7 m), the company informed. Revenues from transportation last year rose by 9.8% in comparison with 2001 to KZT156.4 bn ($1.02 bn), the message says. Passengers turnover increased by 0.6% in comparison with 2001 and equaled to KZT10.45 bn passenger-kilometers. Goods turnover was KZT133.1 bn ton- kilometers that is lower "in a way" than the level of 2001. The company explains decrease of goods turnover by objective reasons - warm winter and setting of new oil pipelines in operation. thus, coal loading in 2002 decreased by 7.6%, oil cargoes - by 5.6% in comparison with previous year. Decrease of goods turnover in export service equaled in the past year to 6.7%, though it increased in transit service by 10.6%. "The achieved growth of transit deliveries volumes is greatly connected with company's efforts on attracting of new clients", - the message says. This year the company intends to increase investments almost three times - to KZT42.25 bn. Last year volume of developed capital investments of Kazakhstan temir zholy was equal to KZT14.8 bn, KZT6.7 bn of which were invested into rehabilitation and modernization of networks. This year the company intends to spend for rehabilitation of infrastructure objects of main railroad network up to 60% of total investments volume.
