In October of 2002 volume of transactions in foreign currency at KASE reached the equivalent of $366.9m and increased by 54.2%

/IRBIS, October 31, 02/ - In October of 2002 volume of transactions in foreign currency at Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) reached the equivalent of USD366,939.3 th. (KZT56,656.9m) and increased relative to September of 2002 by USD128,990.4 th. (KZT19,886.0m) or by 54.2% (54.1%). Relative to October of last year the volume increased by USD139,203.6 th. (KZT22,946.0m) or by 61.1% (68.1%). No changes were made in order of trades in foreign currency in October. Total of 1,746 deals (1,609) were made within a month (hereafter comparable figures of previous month are given in parentheses), including: in U.S. dollars on TOD terms - 1,961 (1,654), on TOM terms - 50 (40); in euro - 0 (0), in Russian ruble - 4 (5). Share of US dollar in the total turnover of the exchange's currency market totaled in October 99.94% (99.89%). Volume of transactions in U.S. dollars reached $366,725.0 th. ($237,690.0) for KZT56,623.9m (36,730.9m). For comparison, total volume of USD deals in October of 2001 at KASE amounted to $227,605.0 th. in the amount of KZT33,691.6m. Tenge devaluation rate against dollar, calculated at weighted average rate of the main session of the Exchange, is estimated in October of 2002 (September 30, 02 = KZT154.72 - October 31, 02 = KZT154.47) by a trend of negative 1.90% APR. Last month average devaluation rate of tenge was equal to 1.50% APR. Weighted average rate of the U.S. dollar against the tenge, calculated by the deals of the main session in October - KZT154.41 per unit. For September of 2002 - KZT154.53 per dollar. Based on the data of the National Bank, volume of over-the-counter deals in U.S. dollars between the operators-residents of Kazakhstan since October 1 of 2002 till October 22, 2002 (later data is absent) reached $265,592.0 th. Volume of all interbank over-the-counter market during this period: purchases - $282,256.0 th., sales - $276,187.0 th. On Russian rouble volume of deals in October of 2002 reached RUR6.8m (8.2m) for a total of KZT33.1m (40.0m). Tenge fluctuation rate against rouble, estimated using weighted average rate of KASE, equaled in October of 2002 (September 30, 02 = KZT4.8900 - October 31, 02 = KZT4.8900) by the trend of negative 6.89% APR. Last month this figure was negative 0.75% APR. Volume of over-the-counter transactions on Russian rouble between operators-residents of Kazakhstan according to the National Bank data since October 1 till October 22 of 2002 (later data is absent) was RUR47,972.0 th. Volume of deals of entire over-the counter interbank market (taking into account non-residents) in this period: purchase - RUR61,619.0 th., sale - RUR53,254.0 th.
