NC KazMunaiGas CJSC(Kazakhstan) informed about revealing of new reserves of hydrocarbons in Kazakhstan sector of Caspian sea

/IRBIS, October 10, 02/ - Press-service of KazMunaiGas CJSC distributed
today press-release, in which it is said that on October 10 of the year 2002
there have been found new reserves of hydrocarbons on the first exploring
mine of Kalamkas field, which is situated in Kazakhstan sector of the
Caspian sea. Exploration works are made here by "Agip KCO" Company.
It is said in the press-release that drilling of borehole Kalamkas-1 was
started on August 4 of 2002 and for the first time was made by climbing
drilling machine "Gurtulus" (Baku port), which was on purpose delivered to
Kazakhstan waters. Testing of the borehole gave oil inflow first with flow rate
of 2,300 barrels within 24 hours on connecting pipe 32/64 inches. With the
purpose of full exploring and estimation of the disclosure there is being
conducted data analysis and additional exploration works. The well has been
made for the total depth of 2,360 meters and found reserves of sandstone of
Jurassic period with hydrocarbon beds on the depth of 1,600 meters. The
well is situated 80 km to the south-west from Kashagan field, operator of
which is "Agip KCO".
As it was informed before, "Agip KCO" - one of the companies of "Eni" group
since February of 2002. "Agip KCO" assumed functions of operator, which
acts in the person of the Consortium based on the Agreementпо about
Production Division at the North Caspian Sea. In addition to the structures
Kalamkas and Kashagan, "Agip KCO" continues exploration works on other
offshore parts, which fall under effect of the Agreement about production
division (APD) concerning the North Caspian Sea.
Partners on APD about the North Caspian Sea are: "Eni" (16. 67 %), BG
Group (16. 67 %), TotalFinaElf (16.67%), ExxonMobil (16. 67%), Shell
(16.67%), Inpex (8. 33%), Phillips (8. 33%).
Finding of hydrocarbons reserves at Kalamkas structure follows disclosure of
Kashagan, the most important one within last 30 years, and proves high
potential of Caspian region, which is considered a new region of oil industry
development.
