In September of 2002 volume of transactions in foreign currency at KASE reached the equivalent of $237.9m and increased by 5.0%

/IRBIS, September 30, 02/ - In September of 2002 volume of transactions in foreign currency at Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) reached the equivalent of USD237,949.0 th. (KZT36,770.9m) and increased relative to August of 2002 by USD11,356.5 th. (KZT1,802.8m) or by 5.0% (5.2%). Relative to September of last year the volume increased by USD81,772.8 th. (KZT13,703.3m) or by 52.4% (59.4%). No changes were made in order of trades in foreign currency in September. Total of 1,609 deals (1,885) were made within a month (hereafter comparable figures of previous month are given in parentheses), including: in U.S. dollars on TOD terms - 1,564 (1,881), on TOM terms - 40 (3); in euro - 0 (0), in Russian ruble - 5 (1). Share of US dollar in the total turnover of the exchange's currency market totaled in September 99.89% (99.98%). Volume of transactions in U.S. dollars reached $237,690.0 th. ($226,545.0) for KZT36,730.9m (34,960.8m). For comparison, total volume of USD deals in September of 2001 at KASE amounted to $155,295.0 th. in the amount of KZT22,937.4m. Tenge devaluation rate against dollar, calculated at weighted average rate of the main session of the Exchange, is estimated in September of 2002 (August 31, 02 = KZT154.53 - September 30, 02 = KZT154.72) by a trend of 1.50% APR. Last month average devaluation rate of tenge was equal to 2.06% APR. Weighted average rate of the U.S. dollar against the tenge, calculated by the deals of the main session in September - KZT154.53 per unit. For August of 2002 - KZT154.31 per dollar. Based on the data of the National Bank, volume of over-the-counter deals in U.S. dollars between the operators-residents of Kazakhstan since September1 of 2002 till September 20, 2002 (later data is not available) reached $220,417.0 th. Volume of all interbank over-the-counter market during this period: purchases - $227,188.0 th., sales - $228,507.0 th. For Russian rouble volume of deals in September of 2002 reached RUR8.2m (1.5m) for a total of KZT40.0m (7.3m). Tenge fluctuation rate against rouble, estimated using weighted average rate of KASE, equaled in September of 2002 (August 31, 02 = KZT4.8930 - September 30, 02 = KZT4.8900) by the trend of negative 0.75% APR. Last month this figure was 2.41% APR. Volume of over-the-counter transactions on Russian rouble between operators-residents of Kazakhstan according to the National Bank data since September 1 till September 20 of 2002 (later data is not available) was RUR14,744.0 th. Volume of deals of entire over-the counter interbank market (taking into account non-residents) in this period: purchase - RUR28,444.0 th., sale - RUR17,071.0 th.
