Kazakhstan and EU signed an agreement on quota rise on export of Kazakhstan rolled steel to Europe

/Kazakhstan today, July 24, 02/ - Minister of economy and trade of RK
Mazhit Essenbayev signed an agreement on behalf of Kazakhstan on trade
in some products made of steel between RK Government and European
Union on coal and steel. It was informed to Kz-Today by administration of
information and analysis of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of RK.
The agreement implies the quota growth on export of some types of sheet
and profiled rolling to Europe from Kazakhstan for 2002 - 2004 period in
average by 40%. In 2002 108 th. tons will be exported to Europe, in 2003 -
110.7 th. tons, in 2004 - 113.5 th. tons.
In case of joining of Kazakhstan the World trade organization, this agreement
will be applied in accordance with WTO rules.
The agreement was signed within the framework of the 4th session of the
Board of collaboration "Republic of Kazakhstan - European Union", which
was held in Brussels. Deputy Prime minister - minister of agriculture
Akhmetzhan Essimov, headed Kazakhstan delegation.
In the course the visit the head of Kazakhstan delegation held a business
meeting in the Ministry of agriculture of Belgium with the aim of examining
know-how of the subsiding and insurance system in agriculture, and
suggestions of European commission on reassess of General agriculture
policies of EU countries.
In the course of negotiations with deputy general director of the Trade
Directorate of European commission Roderick Abbott, he on behalf of
European commission, confirmed a support to process of joining WTO by
Kazakhstan and readiness of EU to provide RK Government with technical
support within the framework of TACIS program.
