Loan portfolio of EBRD in Kazakhstan will account for $750m by the end of year 2001

/Kazakhstan today, Dec 6, 01/ - Loan portfolio of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Kazakhstan will account for $750m by the end of year 2001. It was announced on Thursday, December 06, in Astana after the meeting with the prime minister, Kazsymzhomart Tokaev, the assistant of vice-president of EBRD David Hakster. According to his words, from this amount minimum value of new projects of EBRD in Kazakhstan will be about $200m. "Productivity of Kazakhstan's loan portfolio is very high ", noticed David Hakster. He noted that the development of financial sector of Kazakhstan in comparison with its neighbors "very impressive". Kazakhstan's banks were not highly influenced by bank crisis happened in Russia, emphasized the assistant of vice-president. He thinks that, "more and more banks of Kazakhstan start to play that role, which they should play - finance real sector of the economy". At the same time he informed that during his meeting with K.Tokaev issues concerning organization forthcoming meeting of the Board of foreign investors devoted to 10th anniversary of independency of RK were considered. With the report about the effectiveness of work of the Board of investors and also an activity of EBRD in Kazakhstan the president of EBRD Jean Lemier will make a speech, announced D.Hakster. It is assumed that this meeting will take place next week, he emphasized.
