Astana and Moscow have agreed upon repayment of old debts for leasing of Baykonur cosmodrome in the amount of $65m

/Kazakhstan today, Nov 29, 01/ - Astana and Moscow have agreed upon
repayment of old debts for leasing of Baykonur space center, which was
agreed in 1999. Corresponding agreement was signed by the vice-premier -
minister of energy and mineral resources Mr. Shkolnik and the vice-premier,
minister of finance of RF Aleksey Kudrin on November 28 in Moscow.
As it was informed at the briefing by the prime minister of Kazakhstan
Kasymzhomart Tokaev, at the account of the Ministry of finance new accredit
will be opened for the amount of $65m in order Kazakhstan's companies -
Kazkhsatn Temir Zholy, Kazkhoil, Kaztransoil and other will be able to
acquire for this amount necessary goods and equipment in Russia.
K/ Tokaev called this agreement as "very important" since the problem of
debt repayment has been kept by Russia from 1999.
Earlier Russia and Kazakhstan agreed that a part of the debt for leasing of
Baikonur space center Moscow should repay by goods and equipment. At
that sides couldn't come to agreement about a list and volumes of supplies.
"Now satisfactory decision has been found", said Tokaev. The agreement of
leasing of Baikonur space center takes into consideration annual leasing
payment in the amount of $115m.
