In October volume of transactions in foreign currency at KASE reached an equivalent of USD227.7m

/IRBIS, Oct 31, 01/ - In October in foreign exchange currency sector of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) trades were held in U.S. dollars (TOD, TOM, SPOT terms), euros and Russian roubles (TOD). Three sessions were held daily: the morning (main - TOD, if it falls on a holidays in USA or Europe - TOM), day (additional - TOD, if it falls on a holidays in USA or Europe - TOM) and evening (additional - TOM, SPOT). Total of 1,572 deals (1,184) were made within a month (hereafter comparable figures of previous month are given in parentheses), including: in U.S. dollars on TOD terms - 1,508 (1,153), on TOM terms - 61 (23); in Russian rouble - 2 (7), in euro - 1 (1). Total volume of the operations reached an equivalent of KZT33,711.0m (23,067.6), or $227,735.8 th. (156,176.2). The U.S. dollar accounted for 99.9% (99.4%) of the Exchange's total turnover. Volume of transactions in U.S. dollars reached $227,605.0 th. (155,295.0) for KZT33,691.6m (22,937.4). For comparison, total volume of USD deals in October 2000 at KASE amounted to $109,110.0 th. for KZT15,556.2m. Tenge devaluation rate against dollar, calculated at weighted average rate of the main session of the Exchange, is estimated in October 2001 (Sept 28, 01 = KZT147.80 - Oct 31, 01 = KZT148.13) by a trend of 2.45% APR. Last month average devaluation rate of tenge was equal to 4.13% APR. Weighted average rate of the U.S. dollar against the tenge, calculated by the deals of the main session in October - KZT148.03 per unit. For September 2001 - KZT147.70 per dollar. Based on the data of the National Bank, volume of interbank over-the- counter deals in U.S. dollars between the operators-residents of Kazakhstan in October 2001 (October 1, 01 through October 24, 01, later data are unavailable) reached $226,680.0 th. Volume of all interbank over- the-counter market during this period: purchases - $259,201.0 th., sales - $291,577.0 th. For Russian rouble volume of deals in October 2001 reached RUR3.6m (25.0) for a total of KZT18.0m (125.3). Tenge fluctuation rate against rouble, estimated using weighted average rate of KASE, equaled in October 2001 (Sept 28, 01 = KZT5.0200 - Oct 31, 01 = KZT5.0200) by a trend of negative 2.42% APR (tenge was firming against rouble). Last months this figure was negative 1.21% APR. For DEM volume of transactions in October 2001 totaled EUR10.0 th. (35.0) total for KZT1.3m (4.9).
