/IRBIS, May 24, 01/ - According to GSRW, KazTransOil Vice President
Kairgeldy Kabyldin said at the yesterday's press conference that the Baku-
Tbilisi-Ceyhan project is currently at the stage of conceptual engineering.
The official noted Kazakhstan has formed a group of interested companies
who are currently assessing the project terms.
KTO is a working body of an interdepartmental committee which was formed
to study potential export routes and pipeline projects. The committee held
consultations with oil companies, and an agreement was concluded on the
joint research of the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran project. Increasing oil
transit across Russia is also considered. In particular, a project for the
Kenkiyak-Atyrau oil pipe is being prepared for implementation. Its main terms
of financing should be ready by the mid of 2001. Afterwards, tenders will be
invited for contract operations. KTO Vice President does not exclude the
possibility of practical implementation of the West Kazakhstan-West China
pipe project, whose feasibility study has already been carried out.
