/IRBIS, March 29, 01/ - The GSRW informs, with the reference to the vice
president of the ABB, that the concern is ready to invest in Kazakhstan. The
concern intends to develop its activity in the oil and gas sector of Western
Kazakhstan as well as in electric and technical equipment production and
communications. ABB is interested in upgrading the Atyrau and Shymkent
refineries. In his turn, the Kazakhstan's Prime Minister said the government
plans to prepare a package of projects which would be of a particular interest
to ABB.
In 2000, KazTransOil and ABB signed an agreement on supply of the
SCADA system for the Atyrau-Samara pipeline. ABB invested in the project
$47 mln without bank guarantees. Now, the companies are negotiating the
supply of a communications system which employs fibre optic cables.
