In January volume of transactions in foreign exchange at KASE reached an equivalent of USD126.5 mln

/IRBIS, Jan 31, 01/ - In January, the foreign exchange trade sector of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) held trades in U.S. dollars (TOD, TOM, SPOT terms), Deutsche marks (TOD), euros (TOD), and Russian roubles (TOD). Three sessions were held daily: the morning (main - TOD, US holidays TOM), day (additional - TOD, US holidays TOM) and evening (TOM, SPOT). Total of 1,411 deals were made within a month, including: in U.S. dollars at the main and additional sessions on TOD terms - 1,360, on TOM terms - 45; in Russian rouble - 6. Total volume of the operations (hereafter corresponding figures for previous month are given in parentheses) reached an equivalent of KZT18,382.7 mln (35,124.7), or $126,466.7 th.(242,299.6). The U.S. dollar accounted for 99.9% (99.9%) of the Exchange's total turnover. Volume of transactions in U.S. dollars reached $126,030.0 th. (242,035.0) for KZT18,319.2 mln (35,086.4), including: - at the main and additional sessions on TOD terms - $121,255.0 th. (222,585.0) for an amount of KZT17,625.2 mln (32,265.1) with average of the trade sessions $5,774.0 th. (10,599.3); - at the main, additional and evening sessions on TOM term - $4,755.0 th. (19,450.0) for an amount of KZT694.0 mln (2,821.3 mln). In January of the year 2000 total volume of operations in U.S. dollars at KASE equalled $84,120.0 th. for an amount of KZT11,698.0 mln. Tenge devaluation rate, calculated at weighted average rate of the main session of the Exchange, is estimated in January (Dec.29,00 = 145.40 - Jan.31,01 = 145.11) by a negative trend of 2.20% APR. Last month average devaluation rate of tenge was equal 10.93% APR. Weighted average rate of the U.S. dollar against the tenge, calculated by the deals of the main session in January - KZT145.38 per unit. For December - KZT144.99 per dollar. Based on the data of the National Bank, volume of interbank over-the- counter deals in U.S. dollars between the operators-residents of Kazakhstan in January, 2001 (from Jan.04 to Jan.25) reached $225.054 th. Volume of all interbank over-the-counter market purchases - $248,372.0 th., sales - $287,463.0 th. For Russian rouble volume of deals in Russian rouble reached RUR12.4 mln (7.1) for a total of KZT63.4 mln (36.8). Tenge fluctuation rate estimated using weighted average rate of KZT/RUR on KASE equalled in January to minus 13.33% APR. (Dec.29,00 = 5.1725 - Jan.31,01 = 5.1100) No deals were made in Deutsche marks and Euro on KASE during the month.
