In September volume of transactions in foreign exchange at KASE reached equivalent of USD173.5 mln

/IRBIS, Oct.3, 00/ - In September of the year 2000 in foreign exchange trade sector of the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) trades were held in U.S. dollars (TOD, TOM, SPOT terms), Deutsche marks (TOD, TOM terms) and euros (TOD, TOM). Three sessions were held daily: the morning (main - TOD), day (additional - TOD) and evening (TOM, SPOT). Total of 1,968 deals were made in August, including: - in U.S. dollars at the main and additional sessions on TOD terms - 1,964, on TOM terms - 2; - in Deutsche mark on TOD terms - 2; - no deals were concluded in eurocurrency. Total volume of the operations (hereafter corresponding figures for previous month are given in parentheses) reached an equivalent of KZT24,760.2 mln (26,562.8), or $173,526.0 (186,266.3) th. The U.S. dollar accounted for 99.9% (99.9%) of the Exchange's total turnover. Volume of transactions in U.S. dollars reached $173,500.0 th. ($186,230.0) for KZT24,756.4 (KZT26,557.2) mln, including: - at the main and additional sessions on TOD terms - $173,500.0 th. ($186,230.0) for an amount of KZT24,756.4 mln (KZT26,557.2) with average of the trade sessions $8,261.9 th. ($8,097.0); - at the evening sessions on TOM term - $200.0 th. (0) for an amount of KZT28.5 mln (0). In September of the year 1999 total volume of operations in U.S. dollars at KASE equaled $284,325.0 th. for an amount of KZT38,605.5 mln. Tenge devaluation rate, calculated at weighted average rate of the main session of the Exchange, is estimated in September (Aug.31,00 = 142.52 - Sep.30,00 = 142.58) by a trend of 0.5% APR (tenge revalued). Last month average devaluation rate of tenge was negative at 1.5% APR (tenge revalued). Weighted average rate of the U.S. dollar against the tenge, calculated by the deals of the main session in September - KZT142.69 per unit. For August - KZT142.60 per dollar. From the beginning of the year through September 30 corresponding figure equaled KZT141.89 per dollar and grew up from KZT141.75 during the month. Based on the data of the National Bank, volume of interbank over-the- counter deals in U.S. dollars between the operators-residents of Kazakhstan in September, 2000 reached $255.008 th. Volume of all interbank over-the-counter market purchases - $269,495.0 th., sales - $269,317.0 th. For Deutsche marks volume of transactions in September equaled DM60.0 th. (85.0) for an amount of KZT3.8 (KZT5.6) mln. Tenge devaluation rate towards the mark, calculated at weighted average rate of the Exchange, is estimated in September (Aug.31,00 = 69.75 - Sep.30,00 = 62.44) by a trend of negative 61.1% APR. Last month tenge revalued against the mark at an average of 63.4% APR.
