STATISTICS: weekly volume of transactions in forex at KASE -equivalent of $30.380 mln

/IRBIS, Sep.15, 00/ - During the thirty eighth calendar week of the year 2000
(September 11 - 17) trades in U.S. dollars, Deutsche marks and Euro on
TOD, TOM and SPOT terms were held in foreign exchange sector of
Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE).
Three trade sessions were held during each day: the morning (main,
USD_TOD, DEM_TOD, EUR_TOD), day (additional USD_TOD, DEM_TOD,
EUR_TOD) and evening (USD_TOM, USD_SPOT, DEM_TOM, EUR_TOM).
In U.S. dollars (hereafter corresponding figures for previous month are
given in parentheses): 428 (447) deals were made for a total of $30,380 th.
($41,870 th.). All deals were made on TOD terms.
Average volume of the trading day at KASE in U.S. dollars equalled $6,076
th. ($8,374 th.).
Tenge devaluation against the U.S. dollar, calculated at weighted average
rate of the Exchange on September 8 (only the morning session is
considered), is estimated by a trend:
- short-term (week) - negative 10.4% (-13.2%) APR,
- mid-term (last 30 days) - negative 0.5% (3.3%) APR,
- long-term (from the beginning of this year) - 4.5% (5.0%) APR.
In Deutsche marks no deals were made.
In euros no deals were made.
In general, weekly volume of deals in foreign exchange at KASE is
estimated at an equivalent of $30.380 mln ($41.889 mln), or KZT4,335.7
mln (KZT5,980.5 mln). Daily average - $6,075.8 th. ($8,377.8 th.).
From September 5 through 11 (more earlier data are unavailable) daily
volume of deals in U.S. dollars on the interbank over-the-counter market
between resident varied from $7,777.0 th. to $13,468.0 th.
