EBRD hopes to buy 30% in Kazakhtelecom within a month

/IRBIS, June 21, 00/ - REUTERS informs that European bank for reconstruction and development (EBRD) made a suggestion to the government of Kazakhstan concerning the purchase of 30% of Kazakhtelecom shares and hopes to get the answer in coming month. The head of the representative office did give the details of the suggestion. It is said that Charles Frank of EBRD expressed the bank's wish to buy 30% in Kazakhtelecom for $70 mln as far back as in December of last year, and the minister of transportation and telecommunication, Serik Burkitbaev was giving the amount of $100 mln. EBRD granted $50 mln loan to Kazakhtelecom for the development of telecommunication at the end of last year without the government guarantee. The EBRD representative said the bank was interested in the biggest enterprise of the Kazakhstani ferrous metallurgy Ispat-Karmet.
