Volume of transactions in May of 2000 in foreign currencies at KASE reached equivalent of USD127.2 mln

/IRBIS, June 2, 00/ - In May of the year 2000 in foreign currency trade sector of Kazakhstan stock exchange (KASE) trades were held in U.S. dollars (TOD, TOM, SPOT terms), Deutsche marks (TOD, TOM terms) and euros (TOD, TOM). Three session were held daily: the morning (main - TOD), day (additional - TOD) and evening (TOM, SPOT). Total of 1,889 deals were made in a month, including: - in U.S. dollars at the main and additional sessions on TOD terms - 1,879; - in Deutsche mark on TOD terms - 3; - in eurocurrency on TOD terms - 7. Total volume of the operations (hereafter corresponding figures for previous month are given in parentheses) reached an equivalent of KZT18,107.9 (19,244.9) mln, or 127,256.6 (135,305.6) th. U.S. dollars. U.S. dollar accounted for 99.9% (99.7%) of Exchange's total turnover. Volume of transactions in U.S. dollars reached $127,195.0 ($134,910.0) th. for KZT18,099.7 (KZT19,188.7) mln at the main and additional sessions on TOD terms. In May of the year 1999 total volume of operations in U.S. dollars at KASE equaled $212,040.0 th. for an amount of KZT25,262.0 mln. Tenge devaluation rate, calculated at weighted average rate of the main session of the Exchange towards the dollar, is estimated in May of the year 2000 (April 30,00 = 142.0079 - May 31,00 = 142.3013) by a trend of 2.4% APR. Last month average devaluation rate of tenge towards the dollar was 0.5% APR. Weighted average rate of the U.S. dollar against the tenge, calculated by the deals of the main session of May - KZT142.29 per unit. For April of the year 2000 - KZT141.42 per dollar. From the beginning of the year 2000 through May 31, 2000 corresponding figure equaled KZT141.07 per dollar and grew from KZT140.76 during the month. Based on the data of the National Bank, volume of interbank deals in U.S. dollars between the operators-residents of Kazakhstan from May 2 through 30, 2000 reached $240.413 mln. Volume of all interbank market: purchases - $248,165.0 th., sales - $259,756.0 th. For Deutsche marks volume of transactions in May of the year 2000 equaled 45.0 (275.0) th. marks for an amount of KZT3.0 (KZT19.1) mln. Tenge revaluation rate towards the mark, calculated at weighted average rate of the Exchange, is estimated in May of the year 2000 (April 30,00 = 66.7800 - May 31,00 = 65.9000) by a trend of 15.5% APR. Last month tenge revalued against the mark at an average of 60.8% APR. Weighted average rate of Deutsche mark towards the tenge, calculated by all May deals - KZT66.63 per mark. For April - 69.47. For euros volume of transactions in May of the year 2000 reached 45.0 (75.0) th. euros for an amount of KZT5.9 (KZT10.2) mln. Tenge revaluation rate towards euro, calculated at weighted average rate of the Exchange, is estimated in May of the year 2000 (April 30,00 = 133.2500 - May 31,00 = 131.6250) by a trend of 14.3% APR. Last month tenge revalued against euro at an average of 36.7% APR.
