President Nazarbayev has met with vice-chairman of "Chevron"

/IRBIS, Apr.26, 00/ - President Nazarbayev had a meeting today with a vice-
chairman of "Chevron Overseas Petroleum" Richard Matske. Mr. Matske
participates in Eurasian economic summit, which is taking place in Almaty.
"Our conversation was mainly focused on activity of Tengizchevroil in
Kazakhstan and advances of Caspian pipeline consortium (CPC). We also
briefly discussed the program of Eurasian economic summit held under the
aegis of World economic forum," remarked Mr. Matske.
He did not disclose all details of his half-hourly conversation with the
president.
"I think that participation in the summit of diverse companies from various
countries is a confirmation of favorable investment climate in Kazakhstan,"
said Mr. Matske.
It is nearly a year, the discussions on sale of the state part of
Tengizchevroil have been taking a place. Among the advocates of the sale is
a president of Kazakhoil Nurlan Balgimbayev - former prime-minister and very
influential politician who is supported by oil bonzes.
Tengizchevroil incorporates a participation of Kazakhstan (state share of
25%), USA represented by Chevron (45%), Mobile (25%), and joint Russian-
American company LUKARCO (5%).
Tengizchevroil is one of the successful oil projects and the biggest oil
exporter in Kazakhstan. It develops one of the largest Caspian oil fields -
Tengiz.
Chevron also participates in CPC project, which includes Russia, Oman,
Kazakhstan and such companies as Chevron Caspian Pipeline Consortium
Company, LUCARCO B.V., Rosneft-Shell Caspian Ventures Ltd, Mobil
Caspian Pipeline Company, Agip International, BG Overseas Holding Ltd,
Kazakhstan Pipeline Ventures L.L.C, Oryx Caspian Pipeline L.L.C.
It is expected that CPC project will be finished by June 2001. It will be
capable to transport 27 mln tons of Kazakh oil to the Black sea. In this year,
Kazakhstan plans to produce about 30 mln tons of oil.
