Volume of transactions in March of 2000 in foreign currencies at KASE reached equivalent of USD142.7 mln

/IRBIS, Apr.3, 00/ - In March 2000 in foreign currency trade sector of
Kazakhstan stock exchange (KASE) trades were held in U.S. dollars (TOD,
TOM, SPOT terms), Deutsche marks (TOD, TOM terms) and euros (TOD,
TOM). Three session were held daily: the morning (main - TOD), day
(additional - TOD) and evening (TOM, SPOT).
Total of 2,059 deals were made in a month, including:
- in U.S. dollars on the main and additional sessions with TOD terms -
2,028, with TOM terms - 8, with SPOT - 7;
- in Deutsche mark with TOD terms - 7;
- in eurocurrency with TOD terms - 9.
Total volume of the operations (hereafter corresponding figures for previous
month are given in parentheses) reached an equivalent of KZT20,181.7
(17,852.4) mln, or 142,659.8 (127,607.7) th. U.S. dollars.
U.S. dollar accounted for 99.7% (99.8%) of Exchange's total turnover.
Volume of transactions in U.S. dollars reached $142,275.0 ($127,370.0) th.
for KZT20,121.84 mln (KZT17,819.1 mln), including:
- in main and additional sessions on TOD terms - $139,075.0 ($109,930.0)
th. for an amount of KZT19,669.47 (KZT15,376.9) mln with average
volume of the trade session $6,622.62 ($5.234.8) th.;
- in evening session on TOM terms - $1,400.0 ($15,240.0) th. for an
amount of KZT197.98 (KZT2,134.7) mln with average volume of the trade
session $66.7 ($752.7) th.;
- in evening session on SPOT terms - $1,800.0 ($2,200.0) th. for an
amount of KZT254.4 (KZT307.5) mln with average volume of the trade
session $85.7 ($104.8) th.
In March of 1999 total volume of operations in U.S. dollars at KASE equaled
$82,305.0 th. for an amount of KZT7,195.2 mln.
Tenge devaluation rate, calculated at weighted average rate of the main
session of the Exchange towards the dollar, is estimated in March 2000
(February 29,00 = 140.4375 - March 31,00 = 141.9471) by a trend of 12.6%
APR. Last month average devaluation rate of tenge towards the dollar was
9.5% APR.
Weighted average rate of U.S. dollar against tenge, calculated by the deals
of the main session of March - KZT141.42 per unit. For February of 2000 -
139.87 tenge per dollar. From the beginning of 2000 through March 31, 2000
corresponding figure equaled KZT140.27 per dollar and grew from
KZT139.50 during the month.
Based on the data of the National Bank, volume of interbank deals in U.S.
dollars between the operators-residents of Kazakhstan from March 1 through
29, 2000 reached $222.736 mln. Volume of all interbank market: purchases
- $231,887.0 th., sales - $241,635.0 th.
For Deutsche marks volume of transactions did not exceed 85 (55.0) th.
marks for an amount of KZT5.9 mln (KZT3.9 mln).
Tenge revaluation rate towards the mark, calculated at weighted average
rate of the Exchange, is estimated in March, 2000 (February 29,00 =
71.2000 - March 31,00 = 70.3000) by a trend of 14.8% APR. Last month
tenge devalued against the mark at an average of 7.5% APR.
Weighted average rate of Deutsche mark towards tenge, calculated by all
March deals - KZT70.24 per mark. For February - 70.77.
For euros volume of transactions in February reached 395.0 (210.0) th.
euros for an amount of KZT53.8 (KZT29.4) mln.
Tenge revaluation rate towards euro, calculated at weighted average rate of
the Exchange, is estimated in February 2000 (February 29,00 = 139.1500 -
March 31,00 = 137.4000) by a trend of 14.8% APR. Last month tenge
revalued against euro at an average of 2.4% APR.
