At KASE dollar has grown under a sharp increase in demand of BST

/IRBIS, March 17, 00/ - Today the next morning trades in U.S. dollars, Deutsche marks and euros were held at Kazakhstan stock exchange (KASE) with TOD payment terms. 22 banks participated in the trades. Today the trades in U.S. dollars opened at KZT141.65 per unit. Total of 102 deals were made. Weighted average dollar exchange rate equaled to KZT141.67 (+0.19) per unit. Volume of the session - $12.510 mln (+$6.415 mln). Exchange rate fluctuation during the trade - 0.06%. The trades were closed at KZT141.67/68 per dollar. Today the market got noticeably active. Short term liquidity of the banks that participated in the trades seems to be restored to the level enough to let them buy the dollars actively. Today, demand of the BST was organized and high. It is possible that some traders were working for the money they should receive to their correspondent accounts after the repayment of SS. The first half of the trade went on relatively quiet. Dealers were conducting position games in a wide range of price interval between KZT141.61 - 141.67 per dollar. Volume of the deals did not exceed 2.5 mln USD. However, in the second half of the trade the market has become active. The growth tendency in the exchange rate of the dollar was getting more obvious, so was the volume of the deals. Active moves of a single big seller has stabilized the market at KZT141.68 in final phase of the trade. By the results of the trade it seems as if the growth in the exchange rate of the dollar was mainly caused by some of the traders who attempted to use a psychological factor today. The market has "stagnated" for long, and today the circumstances were in favor of "swinging" it further up. Positions of some of the dealers who were both buying and selling USD, and movements of interbank indicative quotations of the dollar after the closing of the trade confirm this assumption. The latter did not show an adequate firming of the dollar after closing of the morning session. One hour after closing of the morning session on interbank market of Kazakhstan dollar was quoted at KZT141.63/73 per unit. Two hours later - KZT141.60/68. In the day session of KASE with TOD payment terms at 12:30PM the dollar was offered for KZT141.70 per unit with no demand. Deutsche mark, morning session, TOD: no deals. Closing quotations - KZT70.35/65 for mark. Euro, morning session, TOD: no deals. Closing quotations- KZT135.19/140.20 for euro.
