In Kazakhstan inflation equaled 0.1% in February - NB

/IRBIS, March 9, 00/ - As the press-release of the National Bank of
Kazakhstan, devoted to current situation in financial market of the country,
reads inflation reached 0.1% in February of 2000. While prices for food items
rose 0.2%, for non-food items - by 0.1%. Prices and tariffs for public paid
services fell by 0.2%.
Index of consumer prices, shown in percents, is used as an inflation indicator
in Kazakhstan.
The message of the National Bank also reads that the fall in consumer prices
in February "was due to a relative stability of the exchange rate and tariffs
of the enterprises - natural monopolists, and by a sharp decline in monetary
base by the end of January, especially in cash". It is also said such low
level of inflation has not been observed since September 1999.
