At KASE USD exchange rate grew due to high demand of BST

/IRBIS, Feb.18, 00/ - The morning trades in US dollar, Deutsche mark and
Euro were held at Kazakhstan stock exchange (KASE) with TOD payment
terms. 18 banks participated in the trades.
Today the trades in US dollars opened at 139.88 tenge per unit. Total of 58
deals were made. Weighted average dollar exchange rate equaled to 139.93
(+0.13) tenge per unit. Volume of the session - $3.525 mln (+$725 th.).
Exchange rate fluctuation during the trade - 0.06%. The trades were closed
at 139.97/98 tenge per dollar.
As expected, today the market changed. Thanks to significant repayment
volume of SS (including, two issues of MEKKAM-6 that were called back) the
banks had a lot of free money in their correspondent accounts that could not
be reinvested in debts. Despite the expectations, today the National Bank did
not offer notes. Therefore, some banks preferred to invest in currency before
coming weekends. The demand for the dollars was great. It let the buyers to
lead the market up with confidence throughout the session today.
One hour after closing of the morning session on interbank market of
Kazakhstan dollar was quoted at 139.96/04 tenge per unit. Two hours later
quotations did not change. In the day session of KASE with TOD payment
terms at 1:00PM the dollar quotations were absent due to technical
problems.
Deutsche mark, morning session, TOD: no deals. Closing quotations -
70.00/90 tenge for mark.
Euro, morning session, TOD: no deals. Closing quotations - 138.21/22
tenge for euro.
