/IRBIS, Jan.25, 00/ - Gold and currency reserves of the National Bank of
Kazakhstan cover the monetary mass in tenge by 67%. As PRIME-TASS
informs, such statement was made on Tuesday at the meeting called
"Problems and perspectives of using national currencies in trade and
economic relations of CIS countries" by the chairman of the National Bank
Grigorii Marchenko.
He says there is a system of large payments in Kazakhstan, where
settlement of accounts is conducted on gross basis. Due to this the head of
the National Bank suggested CIS countries to use the same settlement
system in tenge. In particular, the suggestion was sent to the National Bank
of Belorussia, Moscow interbank currency exchange. Talks are also planned
with Russian bank. Limits exist within this system, and "overdrafts" and
"overnights" are offered also.
