World bank has granted loans to Kazakhstan since 1993 for $1.8 bln

/IRBIS, Dec.22, 99/ - REUTERS informs, with the reference to the
representative of the bank in Kazakhstan Kadyr Tanju Yurukoglu, World
bank has granted loans to Kazakhstan for $1.819 bln since 1993, $315 of
which granted in 1999.
"Kazakhstan is not the biggest borrower of the World bank, but Kazakhstan
is an active borrower", said Yurukoglu.
The World bank is not the only lender of Kazakhstan, the country pays out
for its debt to other lenders as well.
$140 mln loan was approved by the World bank in the night from December
20 to 21, which was to be used for modernization of the electricity supply
system, development of competitive market for energy and creation of an
effective network company. The loan was given for 20 years with 5 year
promotional period. Kazakhstan may also get World bank loans in the next
year.
The World bank works in several directions in Kazakhstan, including building
a new road between Karagandy and Almaty, improving the health services,
assistance in legal reforms, provision of modern water supply and sewage
systems in some cities of Kazakhstan and improving the electricity
distribution network.
