/IRBIS, Dec.15, 99/ - According to REUTERS, at closing of interbank
currency market of Kazakhstan on December 15 tenge quotations towards
US dollar equaled 137.91/98 tenge per dollar.
Compared to the results of the previous day tenge gained 10 points against
US dollar on demand and 12 points on supply.
In main (morning) session weighted average rate of the dollar with TOD
terms equaled 138.05 (-0.03) tenge per dollar and closing quotations -
138.05/08.
Additional day session with TOD terms and the evening trades with TOM
and SPT terms are not successful yet.
Dollar quotations in interbank market indicated a slight firming of the dollar
after a sharp fall following the closing of the session, which was more
apparent on the demand side. Quotations did not reach closing levels of the
Exchange trades. Spreads varied from 2 to 15 points, not indicating on any
explicit trend.
Results of the poll of the dealers, held by REUTERS today, show that
participants of the country's currency market do not expect firming of the
dollar in near future. Dealers point out today their clients began to make
budgetary payments by year-end and quarter results, which may boost the
demand for tenge. In turn, it will stimulate firming of the tenge against the
dollar. Dealers also note that banks do not lack dollars and supply of dollars
are great in interbank market.
Considering the facts mentioned above, further firming of the tenge against
US dollar should be expected in Exchange trades on Sunday.
