Total shareholders equity of the Kazakhstani banks has grown for 10 months by 33% to $447.1 million

/PRIME TASS, Dec.14, 99/ - According to press release of the National bank
of Kazakhstan, total shareholders equity of the banks of Kazakhstan has
grown in January - October 1999 by 15.3 billion tenges or by $109.2 million
or by 33% in comparison with the similar period of 1998. On November 1 it
has amounted to 62.6 billion tenges or about $447.1 millions.
On November 1 of the current year 58 banks of the second tier had the
licenses of the National bank for the banking activity, including 1 state, 1
interstate and 23 banks with foreign participation. The monthly average gain
of the total banks' shareholders equity has made from beginning of the year
1.5 billion tenges /$10.7 million/.
The shareholders equity of the banks of the second tier has increased by
12.3 billion tenges or about $87.8 million to 16.5 billion tenges or $117
million. The capital of the banks of the first level has grown by 3.8 billion
tenges or by $27.1 million to 50.5 billion tenges or $360 million.
