KASE reported to its members of the readiness to year 2000

/IRBIS, Nov.16, 99/ - On Monday Kazakhstan stock exchange (KASE) sent
a message to its members of the preparation of the Exchange for the next
millenium.
KASE informed that it had taken a number of measures to prepare its
computer systems for year 2000. Particularly, a special commission has
been created at KASE to solve "the year 2000 problem", and the following
measures have been developed:
- inventory stock taking of computer and technical equipment, and software
has been conducted;
- operation system equipment of the main and reserve trade servers has
been renewed to work in the date system of a new millenium;
- equipment and software have been tested for a compliance with "the year
2000 problem";
- all information system have been tested for "the year 2000 problem";
- comprehensive test of the trade system together with the communication
system between the stock exchange, Central depository and Kazakhstan
center for interbank clearing (KCIC) have been held;
- reserve methods for conducting the trades have been tested in case
electronic trade system of the Exchange fails;
- a diesel electricity generator have been bought in case of power failure
during passing into the next millenium;
- a contingency plan has been developed regarding "the year 2000
problem", including:
- using the reserve server in case the main server fails;
- using the reserve methods for conducting trades in case the trade
system fails to function;
- in case of power supply of the Exchange fails uninterrupted power
supply units will provide the trade system with electricity for 30-40
minutes, enough time to start autonomous diesel generator.
